BEE’S 2011 NFL MOCK DRAFT
- 1. CAROLINA PANTHERS – DA’QUAN BOWERS, DE (CLEMSON)
I have Bowers as my #! Defensive player and lets face it, Panthers need more help on defense, Bowers will play across Johnson and both should find success at getting to the QB, like Suh, Bowers will make an immediate impact.
- 2. DENVER BRONCOS – PATRICK PETERSON, DB (LSU)
Sure Fairley seems like this is his spot but ill go with Peterson, Broncos need a lot of help on defense and Champ isn’t getting any younger. Peterson is a playmaker and can make an impact on the return game.
- 3. BUFFALO BILLS – ROBERT QUINN, DE (NORTH CAROLINA)
Yes Quinn missed an entire year but that shouldn’t make the Bills otherwise, his athletic skills and pass rush is just what the Bills defense needs. In a league where you have to get to the QB, Quinn can get you there, especially against Brady, and Sanchez.
- 4. CINNCINATI BENGALS – AJ GREEN, WR (GEORGIA)
With what seems the no-brainer pick for the Bengals franchise. You want Palmer to stay you need to give him WR’s, no Ocho no T.O. well AJ will be just fine; freakish athlete and should make an immediate impact.
- 5. ARIZONA CARDINALS – VON MILLER – OLB (TEXAS A&M)
Arguably the best defensive athlete in the draft, an ideal player you want to build around on defense ala Patrick Willis type impact and ‘Zona lacks an elite OLB with Porter being his “old” self. Paired alongside Lenon this would make a nice 1-2 punch in the LB corps.
- 6. CLEVELAND BROWNS – MARCEL DARIEUS – DT (ALABAMA)
With the release of Shaun Rogers I find the Browns taking a DT with this pick. Yes it could be Fairley but I believe Darieus is a better fit, bigger and stronger and destructive.
- 7. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS – PRINCE AMUKAMARA – DB (NEBRASKA)
The 49ers are fine up front its their secondary that causes problem for this defense, Prince should be able to step right in and contribute; kids got coverage skills and shutting down his opponent.
- 8. TENNESSEE TITANS – JIMMY SMITH – DB (COLORADO)
Yes they don’t have a QB but I feel they can get their QB in the 2nd round. They play in a division with Peyton Manning and his WR arsenal, Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson; a ball hawk like Smith is needed.
- 9. DALLAS COWBOYS – TYRON SMITH – OT (USC)
They could go defense with this pick but you have to protect your QB; keep him off the sidelines. Smith will be solid for years and it’ll give the Cowboys offensive line some youth.
10.WASHINGTON REDSKINS – NICK FAIRLEY – DT (AUBURN)
May think I’m crazy for letting Fairley fall this low, but he’s only done what he did for one year. I say Redskins get rid of Haynesworth and enter Fairley. Redskins could go QB here or a WR but I say go defense; they lack strength up front.
11.HOUSTON TEXANS – ALDON SMITH – DE/OLB (MISSOURI)
Wade Philips is the new defensive coordinator, switching to the 3-4 schemes and just imagine Mario Williams on one side and Aldon Smith on the other, QB’s beware.
12.MINNESOTA VIKINGS – CAM JORDAN– DE (CALIFORNIA)
By not franchise tagging Ray Edwards you have to wonder if he’s going to return; if not Vikings may not miss him if they can get their hands on Jordan. Explosive and athletic he’ll provide a great compliment across Jared Allen and get younger on the line.
13.DETROIT LIONS – BRANDON HARRIS – DB (MIAMI U.)
Lions could go with an offensive lineman here as well but they’re going to need to shape up their secondary first. Harris is a well rounded and should be able to anchor one side of the field.
14.ST. LOUIS RAMS – JULIO JONES – WR (ALABAMA)
Probably the 2nd easiest pick of the draft; with McDaniels calling the shots on offense now and Bradford coming off an excellent Rookie year, what’s missing is a big time WR and Julio is that guy.
15.MIAMI DOLPHINS – MARK INGRAM – RB (ALABAMA)
If the Dolphins don’t draft Ingram, they either believe in Ronnie Brown still or figure they can get their impact RB later in the draft. Ingram is clearly the best RB in this draft, maybe the 2nd coming of Emmitt Smith?
16.JAX JAGUARS – RYAN KERRIGAN – DE (PURDUE)
Kerrigan would be the ideal fit for the Jaguars as they continue to build their defense. Kerrigan provides the pass rush they lacked last year and has been explosive all season long at Purdue.
17.NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS – JJ WATT – DE (WINSCONSIN)
Patriots don’t need much, but Watt’s will help them upfront where it seems like only Wilfork exists. Watt’s work ethic would make the hoodie jealous, perfect fit for the Patriots.
18.SAN DIEGO CHARGERS – NATE SOLDER – OT (COLORADO)
After having a top 3 offense and defense there are not much holes but it’s always helpful to protect your franchise QB. Solder is a big blocker, will take care of Rivers blind side and open up holes for Mathews.
19.NEW YORK GIANTS – GABE CARIMI – OT (WINSCONSIN)
Giants offensive line is getting up their in age, and this is the draft to start rebuilding it. Carimi will provide solid depth and will help keep Eli protected. Giants just have to deal with his injury history.
20.TAMPA BAY BUCS – ADRIAN CLAYBORN – DE (IOWA)
With Clayborn alongside McCoy, the Bucs should have a solid pass rush to help keep the secondary honest. Upperbody strength and reliable tackler will help. The Bucs could also go with a LB here.
21.KANSAS CITY CHIEFS – AKEEM AYERS – MLB (UCLA)
At first I put a WR here, but who can pass up arguably the 2nd best LB in the draft? In the ¾ defense Ayers will line up next to Johnson and provide versatility by both rushing the passer and dropping back in coverage.
22.INDY COLTS – MIKE POUNCEY – OG/C (FLORIDA)
Cant remember the last time I seen Peyton Manning get hit so many times week after week. The offensive line needs some youth and Pouncey is a start, can play both Guard or Center and can only hope he’s just as good as his brother.
23.PHILADELPHIA EAGLES –DERREK SHERROD-OT (MISS ST)
Let’s face it, Vick got hit a lot last season and fixing that offensive line has to be priority for the Eagles if they want to keep Vick healthy. Good foot work and technically sound, Sherrod should provide instant protection for Vick.
24.NEW ORLEANS SAINTS – COREY LIUGET – DT (ILLINOIS)
Saints were not good against the run last year, what would help fix the problem is making the front 4 stronger. Liuget’s as good as it gets and will provide solid run support alongside Ellis.
25.SEATTLE SEAHAWKS – BLAINE GABBERT – QB (MIZZOU)
And Blaine is the first QB off the board, Hasselback is up their in age and I’m not sure what Carroll thinks of Whitehurst. Gabbert would be Seahawks future QB, lacks a few intangibles but arguably best QB in the draft.
26.BALTIMORE RAVENS – TORREY SMITH – WR (MARYLAND)
What did Ravens miss last year? Big play ability, and that’s exactly what Smith can bring to the table. Still developing as a route runner but his speed and explosiveness can create seperation from his defenders.
27.ATLANTA FALCONS – JUSTIN HOUSTON – OLB/DE (UGA)
Abraham had a solid year but he’s getting old and there are no other legit pass rushers on that Falcon line. Bring in Houston and he should compliment Abraham quite nice.
28.NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS – JON BALDWIN – WR (PITT)
After trading away Randy Moss, Patriots lacked that deep threat they thought they had in Brandon Tate. Enter Baldwin, big target and can make immediate impact with Brady. It showed in the playoffs against the Jets, but Pats get better with this pick.
29.NEW YORK JETS – CAMERON HEYWARD – DE (OHIO STATE)
The Jets stingy defense could always use more help, Heyward is a big guy that can help the DLine, quick and agile with lack of explosiveness but his athleticism will overshadow that.
30.CHICAGO BEARS – BENJAMIN IJALANA – OT (NOVA’)
You have to protect your QB and that’s what the Bears need to do a better job of. Benjamin will provide that and give Cutler time to find his WR’s down the field.
31.PITTSBURGH STEELERS – DANNY WATKINS – OG (BAYLOR)
Doesn’t matter if Big Ben likes to get hit, he’s been getting hit and knocked down hard for a couple of seasons already. Steelers need some depth on that offensive line and Watkins can provide the protection Big Ben needs. Might be a little high for Watkins but Steelers need to fill a need.
32.GREENBAY PACKERS – MARTEZ WILSON – ILB (ILLINOIS)
Wilson is arguably the best ILB in the draft and the Champs get a crack at him, Ted Thompson drafts yet another gem to fit into that defense that seemed deep already but you take BPA and it happens to be Wilson and find ways to get him on the field alongside Hawk. Matthews, Hawk, Barnett, Bishop and Wilson is a solid core of LB’s.
